I travel to different countries when I read. I actually feel no need to go to any of these places in the physical sense.
Some years ago I read a book set in England during WW2. I was very taken with the quite country lifestyle the characters were living. Everything was so different - from the way the characters dressed, to the way they thought. If I was to travel to England now everyone would be in 2023 mode. That’s what I like about reading, not only do you travel to different countries, you also engage in a different timeline.
