Interesting post. I know this isn’t the same but I once watched a movie called War of the Worlds (the version with Tom Cruise in it ), and as I watched I imagined living through such a terrible event. Then I asked myself what I would do if that really happened – Suicide came to mind. The reason why – loss of hope. The point you raised about the concentration camps with people committing suicide… had I been there, would have I committed suicide too. Who knows, people do things they normally wouldn’t in times of stress.
